Dr. Paul Moayyedi

Dr. Moayyedi is interested in how H. pylori testing and treatment can be used to manage different patient groups. He conducted population based clinical trial research on the health economics and medical benefits of H. pylori tests and treatment in the community. He published a series of systematic reviews on therapy for Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease, Peptic Ulcer Disease and functional Dyspepsia. He was co-chair of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology guidelines on chronic use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Dr. Moayyedi has a specific interest in health economics and medical decision modeling. He is currently developing an interest in the early detection of malignancy and GI cancer chemoprevention. Under his joint leadership with Dr. David Forman, the Upper Gastrointestinal and Pancreatic Diseases Cochrane Group is moving to McMaster University in a phased transition completed in 2010.

Dr. Stephen Collins

Dr. Stephen Collins is a world-renowned researcher in the field of gastroenterology and a founding member of the Farncombe Family Digestive Health Research Institute.

He is the Associate Dean, Research, for the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, a Gastroenterologist for Hamilton Health Sciences and a Distinguished University Professor of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.  

After receiving his medical training in the United Kingdom, Dr. Collins joined the Department of Medicine at McMaster in 1981. He was Director of the Intestinal Diseases Research Program from 1984-1994 and Head of the Division of Gastroenterology from 1992-2006. He holds the GlaxoSmithKline Chair in Gastroenterology.

Collins’ research interests are focused on the impact of inflammation on gut function, neuron-immune interactions and the role of commensal bacteria in digestive health and disease.
