3rd Annual Farncombe Institute Research Day
The Farncombe Institute Trainee Association hosted the 3rd annual Research Day on October 17th at the Royal Botanical Gardens, celebrating the outstanding research efforts of our community. Highlights included keynote talks from David Good, PhD student at the University of Guelph and Executive Director of the Yanomami Foundation, who shared his work on “Bridging Microbiome Research and Advocacy with the Yanomami People of the Amazon Rainforest,” and Stephen Collins, Distinguished University Professor and former Institute Director, who reflected on “A Personalized View of My Career in Medicine and Biomedical Science.”
We also congratulate our award winners:
For poster presentations, 1st place went to Grace Kim (Surette Lab), 2nd place was a tie between Dominique Tertigas (Surette Lab) and Chiko Shimbori (Bercik-Collins Lab), and 3rd place to Tyler Seto (Khan Lab).
For oral presentations, we had a four-way tie for 1st place among Dana Kukje Zada (Schertzer Lab), Erica Yeo (Sloboda Lab), Fernando Vicentini (Bercik-Collins Lab), and Gayatri Nair (Hynes Lab). Congratulations to all for their inspiring presentations!
The day ended with a surprise presentation. Dr. Paul O’Byrne, dean and vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences, announced the establishment of the Stephen M. Collins Chair in Translational Digestive Health Research.
